LAKE CITY (FBW)—Longtime pastor Robert K. Davis of Lake City passed away Aug. 18 at the age of 70.
Davis, honored as pastor emeritus of First Baptist Church of Lake City last year, served the Lord faithfully in several congregations in Alabama and Florida during the course of his ministry.
A native of Hattiesburg, Miss., Davis served at First Baptist Church in Elba, Ala., but then spent the remainder of his ministerial career in Florida churches, including North Central Baptist in Gainesville, First Baptist Church in Lake City—where he served for 23 years—and Woodstock Baptist Church in Jacksonville, where he served for 11 years before retiring.

Davis was honored in February 2013 with the title of pastor emeritus by First Baptist Church of Lake City. At the ceremony, he said, “I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for this honor and I will accept it and try to represent the Lord and First Baptist Church in a way which would please the Lord and you would be proud of it. Thank you very much.”
John Sullivan, executive director-treasurer of the Florida Baptist Convention, paid tribute to Davis on the occasion by quoting Psalm 1 and saying, “That describes Robert Davis, man of integrity, who has given his entire life to ministry that he might bring people to faith in Jesus Christ.”
Davis retired as a major with the Florida National Guard after 20 years of service.
Davis was preceded in death by his son, Jeff, a Columbia County Sheriff’s deputy who died in the line of duty in 2002.
Davis is survived by his wife of 45 years, Pat Davis of Lake City; son, John Robert Davis (Melissa) of Lake City; daughter Nan Davis Lavender (Michael) of Hattiesburg, Miss.; grandchildren, Branden Robert Davis and Alyson Davis of Lake City, and Lauren Lavender and Jay Lavender of Hattiesburg, Miss.; father in law, Robert F. Hancock of Lake City.
Funeral services for Davis were held on Aug. 21 at First Baptist Lake City.
