FORT MYERS (FBW)—Mark P. Gonzales, former pastor of Gateway Grace Fellowship in Fort Myers, is serving as interim director of missions of the Royal Palm Baptist Association since the retirement of Everett D. Rafferty after 26 years. Gonzales, who served as church planter and pastor in Fort Myers 23 years, said he will miss Rafferty’s “ministry to us for so many years.”

Gonzales said he sensed the Lord leading him away from the local church ministry earlier this year “to focus on regional and global mission work.”

Gonzales earned M.Div. and D.Min. degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, before moving to Florida in 1990 “to shepherd a struggling church plant of 24 people.” Gateway Grace Fellowship, with the help of Florida Baptist Convention, the Maguire State Mission Offering and North American Mission Board, built a building in 1993 and “grew into a healthy church family,” he said.
