Retired Jacksonville pastor, James Branch, 85, dies

JACKSONVILLE (FBW)—James Branch, 85, pastor emeritus of Faith Memorial Baptist Church in Jacksonville, died Feb. 24. 

Branch served as a member of the Florida Baptist Convention State Board of Missions 1981-87, and on the Florida Baptist State Convention Nominating Committee in 1984. He was active in the Jackson­ville Baptist Association 1965-1998.

Prior to serving as pastor of Faith Memorial Baptist 32 years, Branch served as pastor of Black Pond Baptist Church and Friendship Baptist Church, both in Black Creek Baptist Association. After retiring in 1995, he served as interim pastor of Solomon Baptist Mission in Jacksonville, and of Dunn Memorial Baptist Church in Baxley, Ga., where he was born.

Branch was a U. S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a graduate of Luther Rice Seminary, and taught Baptist history there for 12 years. He held an honorary doctorate from North Florida Theological Seminary. 

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Joan; a daughter, Melody Johnson; and two granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his son, Douglas, in 1991.
