GRACEVILLE (BCF)—Expectancy was high at The Baptist College of Florida (BCF) in Graceville as the announcement was made for the winner of the fall semester preaching competition.

Preaching Professor and Graduate Division Chair Ed Scott announced that BCF Junior Sawyer Whittaker from New Brockton, Ala. won the competition and would be preaching before the faculty and his peers in chapel.

The historic R. G. Lee Chapel is where college, seminary, and convention presidents, distinguished faculty members, evangelistic powerhouses, prayer warriors, admired missionaries, and strong men and women of faith have shared their hearts, and Whittaker was no exception to that tradition. Taking his place in the pulpit, Whittaker reminded those gathered of their high calling and commitment to ministry and continued faithfulness in Kingdom building.

The prestigious Presidential Excellence in Preaching Award was established by BCF President Thomas A. Kinchen and wife Ruth Ann in recognition of the importance and power in preaching God’s word. The selected front-runner received a commemorative Bible acknowledging his communication skills and preaching abilities. This high honor is a constant reminder of every Christian’s responsibility to spread the Gospel.
