MYAKKA CITY (FBW)—A.O. Hendry, 85, retired pastor of Bethany Baptist Church in Myakka City, died July 9. He was a life-long resident of Manatee County and a 17-veteran of the U.S. Army and Coast Guard during World War II and the Korean Conflict.
Hendry served as pastor of Bethany Baptist 1973-1993 and, after his retirement, served several area churches as interim pastor. He also served as corporate chaplain for several area businesses and as chaplain of the Southeast High School football team.
Hendry is survived by his wife of 66 years, Gertrude; four daughters: Carol Fuller, Lynell Gray, Sara Hemperly and Mary Beth Chubb; fourteen grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly Kay Helton.
Visitation is scheduled July 12, 6-8 p.m. at Shannon Funeral home Town Chapel in Bradenton. The funeral will be July 13 at 1 p.m. at Bethany Baptist Church in Myakka City.
