If we're going to help recovering addicts, we have work to do

Simon Hunt is director of the Celebrate Recovery ministry at First Baptist Orlando. Many Florida Baptist churches join the fight against addiction by hosting Celebrate Recovery groups.

Simon Hunt is the director of the Celebrate Recovery ministry at First Baptist Orlando. He said that while they don’t have people coming in off the street who are under the influence, Celebrate Recovery can be a good option for people as they are leaving a treatment facility and looking to rejoin and rebuild their lives.

Hunt believes that when it comes to recovery, the church has some work to do.

“The Church is way short of where we need to be on this issue,” he said.

But the good news is that people who come seeking out a ministry like Celebrate Recovery have recognized their need for a change. Churches have a unique opportunity through a ministry like Celebrate Recovery to have a Gospel impact on someone’s life.

“In someone’s time of brokenness, it is also their time of openness to the Gospel,” he said. “This is one of the front doors to the church.”

Hey Nicole. I liked your article but you missed Christ Alone Ministries in Walton County altogether. Didn't Marc Johnston tell you about us? Would you like to see the ranch? We've struggled to get the word out even in our local association.
