First Person

Veteran’s Day, November 11th, marked the sixth anniversary of my father’s death. It fell on a Tuesday just as it did the year he died. On Thursday, November 13th, 1997, Dad was laid to rest in the Chattanooga National Cemetery. The sound of his gray-haired comrades firing their 21-gun salute, the mournful wail of a lone bugler playing taps, or the look on my mother’s face when a World War II veteran handed her a folded up flag will stay with me forever.

The story got only a brief mention in the New York Times—a three-paragraph article buried on an inside page. To me, it’s a big story—and a disturbing one.

Have fun with cryptography and exercise your Bible knowledge. A King James Version verse is encoded by letter substitution. The same letter is substituted throughout the puzzle. Solve by trial and error.
